Cracking Concepts #19: Encyclopaedic voyage
Head to your local library and pick a volume of an encyclopaedia at random.
Now open at a random page and just start reading.
Nothing takes your interest?
Keep turning the pages until you find something or someone who does.
Then just start pulling on that thread.
You’ll typically find that one entry will lead to another and another as you further explore the person or subject.
Once you’re done there, continue your research either with specific books on that subject in the library or via the internet.
If you spend half an hour at this, I guarantee you’ll find something that fascinates you and that might warrant long-form treatment. If not, as ever, just continuing to feed your mind is going to have positive creative consequences at some point.
This isn’t something I’d say you should do once. This is something you can do every couple of months. It’s all fuel for your creative furnace.
