Head to your local library’s magazine section and instead of picking up Vanity Fair, the New Yorker or any publication you would normally read, pick up something that you wouldn’t normally even see on the racks.

As you sit down and read, imagine what sort of person would read this with fascination. Picture their home. Their lives. Is this a hobby or a vocation? Why is this their obsession? Is this obsession masking something? What would shake up their world? Alternatively, what could thrust you or someone like you into this world?
Apart from specific interest magazines like these, it’s great to look at a magazine like New Scientist because it’s full of emerging ideas that might give you a fresh spin on an old story.
