Hi!

I'm glad someone mentioned Chris Vogler's The Writer’s Journey.

Strangely, it is absent most from top 5 or top 10 best screenwriting book lists.

I've used it a lot, my copy it's actually quite worn out. It's not a once-read book. More like something between a guide and a text book. Quite encouraging.

As I understand it, Vogler's work is a summarized or worked (if not watered down) "version" of Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. But unlike the second one, Vogler grounds all of the elements into the screenplay industry. Very helpful indeed.

Nice to see I'm not the only one with such thoughts about Robert McKee's Story.

Thank you for mentioning Stuart Voytilla's Myth and the Movies and Bruno Bettelheim's The Uses of Enchantment. I'll try to get a copy of them.

Cheers!
